Shred/Burn It Day

Crimestoppers of Chouteau County along with Montana Records Management will be hosting Shred/Burn It Day.  Identity and prescription drug theft is on the rise in Montana and the US.  To help prevent these thefts you will be able to bring documents and any unused prescription medication and have them safely destroyed.  Documents will be shredded on site in Montana Records Management’s shredding truck which is certified by the National Association for Information Destruction and medication will be disposed of by the new grant funded county incinerator.

Shred/Burn It Day will be on May 12 2011 from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the new Search and Rescue building, at 2615 Main St. in Fort Benton (large white building with red trim).  You can bring as much medication as you need to dispose of.  Documents are limited to two bags or boxes per person but any amount over this can be taken with a payment to Montana Records Management.  The shredding truck can handle paper clips and staples so there is no need to remove them.  Crimestoppers will be accepting donations to cover shredding service cost.

If you cannot make it to the Shred/Burn It Day you are welcome to drop off your items at the Sheriff's Office at 1215 Washington St. in Fort Benton.  You can also drop them off at our Big Sandy Office in City Hall (please call 378-2297 to make arrangements.)

If you have any questions please call Justin Smith at 622-5451.

Dive Rescue International Ice Rescue Training

Eight members from Chouteau County Search and Rescue, Sheriff's Office, Big Sandy Ambulance and two members from Malmstrom AFB attended a day long course to be certified as Ice Rescue Specialists.  Areas that were covered by the Dive Rescue International Instructors were ice rescue planning, equipment, ice formation, patient conditions, and rescue methods.  The practical portion was held on a local pond with an aerator that had thin ice conditions even though our latest temperatures would lead you to believe the ice was safe.  After donning a protective ice rescue suit one member was able to break through the barely 2 inch thick ice just by jumping.  When a hole was created all members had a chance to put their training to use and tried several different methods rescuing each other.
